    The National Biosafety Authority created by Law No. 2009-27 of 13 July 2009 is responsible for regulating the development of activities of contained use of use, import , export, transit, transport deliberate release into the environment and placing on the market of genetically modified organisms or derivatives .

    Missions
     ANB's missions are to:
      receive and review notifications and requests for authorization addressed to the Minister in charge of Environment to import, export, transit, handling, contained use, the deliberate release into the environment or the placing on the market of genetically modified organisms or products derived from genetically modified organisms;
      ensure the accuracy of the information required for the notification and if necessary ensure confidentiality;
      advise departments, relevant bodies and the public upon notification of a request for authorization of activities related to genetically modified organisms, or derivatives;
      enter the National Biosafety Committee for the Review of the notification to assess risks, or to review and assess the results of the risk assessment of genetically modified organisms or products for which authorization is requested and obtain their opinion scientifically reasoned conclusion of that evaluation; 
    submit proposals to the Minister in charge of Environment in order to grant or refuse authorization on the basis of the NBC report;   take all necessary measures to prevent risks related to any GM or product of genetically modified organism. The ANB also responsible for:   Inform the relevant ministers, the public and public and private stakeholders and the exchange Centre for Biosafety of any refusal or acceptance;   make available to the public a database on genetically modified organisms and products derived from genetically modified organisms;   inform, educate and raise awareness on biosafety issues. The ANB has finally responsible for:   make any proposal of legislative or regulatory reform relating to biosafety and modern biotechnology;   proposing criteria, standards, guidance, and regulations necessary for achieving the goals of the law on biosafety;   writing on behalf of the Minister for the Environment, an annual activity report for the President of the Republic, the Government and the National Assembly;   establish regulations and appropriate administrative procedures for processing information and documents relating to notifications of files;   perform any other tasks entrusted to it in the implementation of the Biosafety Law and its implementing regulations;   make rules.
